Loose Dentures? Hold Them Firm With Dental Implants

Loose Dentures? Hold Them Firm With Dental Implants

Every action has an equal reaction, and your smile is something that brings back one for yourself. Isn’t it? But then, what if you feel uncomfortable smiling? What could make you feel a hesitant to smile?
Yellow teeth – Missing teeth – Decayed teeth

Well, there is something else too. What could it be?

Think.

A tooth-less smile.

It is indeed quite an embarrassing thought. However, you can get that right with a set of dentures, and it’s quite a relief. But then, you might have problems with your dentures over a period. They might become loose and wobbly, not fitting in as firmly as when they were new. That could probably make you feel a lot more uncomfortable while smiling, speaking or chewing, than just having no teeth.

So, is there something that can hold them tight and help you be free from loose dentures?

Well, yes!

Dental Implants.
Dental implants can be used efficiently to support and stabilise dentures. Now when you talk about what could possibly cause your dentures go loose, it’s quite a simple reason. When the human bite does not have teeth, it results in jaw bone resorption (bone loss) over a period. That’s what leads to difficulty in chewing, talking, and the speech becomes impaired. It is a natural process.

So, let’s first understand why, and how it happens.

The jaw bones have two layers.
The basal – this is the regular part of the skeleton.
Alveolar – the alveolar bone surrounds the teeth.

Jaw Bones

When you lose teeth, there is a lack of stimulation to the alveolar bone causes it to start shrinking. This usually continues for the rest of your life if left untreated. But it’s not just the bones that are affected. Even the gum tissue in the jaws start thinning when the bones in the jaws lose width and height. In many cases the tongue slightly enlarges to fill the empty space of the teeth, and plays the role of teeth for chewing, which makes the dentures lose their stability even more. People end up using their tongue to keep their dentures from moving.

Dental implants to stabilise your dentures

Now this is where dental implants actually come into the picture. Since the bone loss after losing teeth is an irreversible phenomenon, dental implants are recommended to provide that lost stimulation to the bones. It helps in restricting the bone loss.

Dental Implants to Stabilise Dentures

2-4 dental implants are strategically placed in your jaw bones, with attachments under your new dentures. Once the bone around your implants heals (after 3-4 months), your dentures are mounted and fixed onto your implants. This will stabilise your dentures and you can have anything you like, including hard foods. You might also think about the upper teeth where you have to wear dentures with a palate that obstruct your tastebuds. Some of you might face a gag reflex, or might not be able to enjoy your food. Well, we have a solution to this too.

We provide you with palateless upper dentures, with two implants for the front teeth and two in the back. However, the more number of implants you have, the stable the dentures get. So, you can speak to your doctor to know what best would suit your needs.

At GA Dental Speciality Dental Clinic, we provide a range of dental treatments, and dental implants have have been topping the chart of the most sought after treatment.
