Was it a fall or a heroic fight?
You may even break a tooth with no reason in sight.
Or is it how it always was?
Visit a dentist, no matter how you got the cut!
Okay, that didn’t rhyme well. But you get my point, right?
The enamel is one of the strongest bones in our body and of course, a very important one. So, if you have got a broken tooth, it has faced a massive blow on it. Hence, it’s essential to get it checked by a dentist (even if it does not pain) to rule out the possibilities of any other major impact.
But if it’s just a broken tooth, here are your options. Read on.
Dental Filling: Just like what the name suggests, in a dental filling or a dental bonding, a tooth coloured chemical substance called resin is stuck to your broken tooth. For the purpose of it, the tooth is first roughened out a bit, and then an adhesive is applied to it. The resin is adjusted over the medical glue. When the adjustment looks most natural, the portion is hardened out by the use of UV light.
Dental Veneers: Like nail cover for finger nails, a dental veneer acts as a cover for the broken tooth (especially the front ones). A personalised veneer is made in a lab based on your preferences from samples taken from the broken tooth. When the veneer is ready, the dentist will cement it to your tooth. S/he will use a special light to fasten the gluing action between the tooth and the veneer.
Dental Cap: For large missing chunks (but functioning tooth root), your dentist may go for a crown. Crowns or dental caps are make or porcelain or metal or resin. Metals are the strongest while resin gives the most natural look. Dental caps are built in labs as per the impressions of your tooth.
Root Canal: If the tooth is broken to an extent where the pulp or tooth root is exposed, the area becomes vulnerable to infections. In such cases, the remaining portion of the tooth is drilled out (sedatives are used) and cleans thoroughly. The area is then sealed to prevent future infections.
Dental Implants: If root canal makes you feel empty, you may go for a dental implant. After removing the original pulp, a biocompatible screw is surgically set in your jaw which acts as the new root. After a few weeks, bone tissues are harvested from another location or else, a bone grafting is done. The tissues are then sent to the lab where a new tooth is made as per the impressions taken from your mouth by the dentist.
So, now you know what you can expect at a dentistry if you have a broken tooth. Talk to your doctor to find the treatment that will suit you the best!.
